BLOOMSBURG-As a small business owner or manager, you understand your industry inside and out. Unfortunately, being good at what you do isn’t always enough to keep your business alive and growing profitably.  You MUST differentiate yourself from your competitors!

MARKETING 101

Target Your Market-Think about your ideal customer.  How old are they? What sex are they? What are their likes and dislikes?  Get inside their head.  Where would you find this customer? What form of advertising would appeal to them?

This is not to suggest that you would turn a potential customer away because they do not fit your criteria.  Just keep in mind that an ad that attempts to speak to everyone, speaks to no one.

Focus On Consistency-The key to establishing your company in the minds of your customers and potential customers whenever they need your product or service is to develop a brand. This involves designing a logo, deciding on company colors, creating a slogan (while keeping your unique selling position in mind) and choosing two or three fonts that you will use with all marketing, promotional materials and in all of your advertising.

Unique Selling Position (USP): A distinct product or service unique to your business establishment or a unique way of presenting a common product or service.

Planning-The best and easiest way to handle business growth is to create it.  A well-designed and maintained plan gets you started in the right direction and keeps you on course through success!

Online Marketing-Today’s consumers are utilizing the internet to find out more about products and companies before they buy. Whether your establishment has a website or not the internet provides excellent opportunities to highlight your business nationally and/or locally. Some of them are free or inexpensive, others can be very costly. There are online directories, website link “trading” options and banner advertising, to name a few.
